I left the nested ifs alone because I'm not fluent enough to know what cutting off where will cause a formatting error. Right now I'm just trying to prune the low hanging fruit and then work from there.
I left a couple of functions alone out of  fear that messing with them would cause a formatting error. Do tell me if I did wrong.
i've left some of it intact because I don't know enough to understand if this is cascading or not. Therefore, I'd like a second set of eyes on it.
again, left some of this alone because I wasn't comfortable touching it until I had someone look at it and say "yes, its okay to delete those"
